Pensacolian in Paris for U.N. meeting
“In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks, a few Gulf South Rising delegates opted to cancel their trip to Paris for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of Parties.
Not Pensacola resident Mary Gutierrez. The environmental chemist pondered canceling for about a millisecond, if that, before opting to attend the conference and let her voice be heard by world leaders.
Gulf South Rising is an initiative established to raise awareness and take action around the effects of climate change and ecological extraction. The organization sent 33 delegates from Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas this week to participate in the U.N. proceedings, which began Monday and lasts through Dec. 11. The purpose for the conference is for world leaders from 195 nations to sign a legally binding agreement on climate change.”
